Accessibility Statement
UDID Academy is committed to ensuring that our website is accessible to everyone, including people with disabilities. We strive to meet or exceed the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA.
Our Commitment
UDID Academy — Unique Differences In Development — serves individuals of all abilities and their families. Accessibility is not just a legal requirement for us; it is central to our mission. We believe every person, regardless of ability, deserves equal access to information about our programs, enrollment, and resources.
We continually evaluate and improve our website to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA, as referenced by the U.S. Department of Justice's ADA Web Accessibility Guidance.
What We Have Done
Perceivable
- All images include descriptive alt text; decorative images use empty alt attributes.
- Color is never used as the sole means of conveying information.
- Text and interactive elements meet WCAG 2.1 AA contrast ratios (4.5:1 for normal text, 3:1 for large text).
- Text can be resized up to 200% without loss of content or functionality.
- Videos include synchronized captions where applicable.
Operable
- All functionality is accessible via keyboard — no mouse required.
- Navigation menus support arrow-key navigation and Escape to close.
- A "Skip to main content" link is provided at the top of every page.
- Focus indicators are clearly visible on all interactive elements.
- Users who prefer reduced motion are respected via the prefers-reduced-motion media query.
- No content flashes more than three times per second.
Understandable
- The page language is declared in HTML (lang="en").
- Form fields include visible labels and clear instructions.
- Required fields are identified both visually and programmatically.
- Error messages clearly describe what went wrong and how to fix it.
- Navigation is consistent across all pages.
Robust
- HTML is valid and uses semantic elements (header, nav, main, footer, section, article).
- ARIA roles, states, and properties are used where native HTML is insufficient.
- The site is tested with screen readers (NVDA, VoiceOver) and keyboard-only navigation.
- The site is compatible with current versions of Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge.
Known Limitations
While we strive for full WCAG 2.1 AA conformance, some areas are still being improved:
- Some older gallery images may have limited alt text — we are reviewing and updating these.
- Embedded Google Maps iframes have limited keyboard accessibility — we provide text-based address and directions links as alternatives.
- Third-party social media embeds (Facebook, Instagram) may not fully conform to WCAG 2.1 AA — these are outside our direct control.
