TJ Campbell headshot

Ta Juan "TJ" Campbell

Ta Juan "TJ" Campbell is a community development strategist, nonprofit leader, and fully licensed Property & Casualty and Life & Health insurance broker with more than 18 years of experience serving families, small businesses, and underserved communities across Southern California. He is the founder of TJ Campbell Insurance and GYI Services (Getyourins.com), platforms through which he delivers customized insurance and financial solutions designed to help individuals and families SECURE, SAVE, and KEEP more of what they earn.

TJ joined the UDID Academy Board of Directors in March 2026, bringing focused expertise in community outreach, nonprofit compliance, and organizational structure — areas critical to UDID Academy's next phase of growth. His work on the board centers on strengthening the organization's community presence, ensuring regulatory and operational compliance, and building the governance infrastructure that will support UDID's long-term mission of providing inclusive, confidence-building athletic experiences for children with unique differences in development.

His background makes him uniquely equipped for this role. As founder of the Thoroughbred Sports Academy — a basketball and life-skills program with more than 21 years of operation in the Inland Empire and Greater Los Angeles area — TJ understands firsthand the life-changing impact of creating intentional, patient, and skill-focused environments where every child can thrive. Over two decades, he has mentored more than 2,000 young people through camps, clinics, and high school coaching, guided by the belief that sport is one of the most powerful vehicles for building confidence, discipline, and community belonging.

His nonprofit leadership experience is extensive. TJ founded the Tyra Lynn Foundation in 2009, a nonprofit dedicated to carbon monoxide education and community safety that was instrumental in the passage of the California Safe Home Act of 2010, requiring carbon monoxide alarms in every California home. That experience — from launching a nonprofit through navigating public policy and community mobilization — gives him deep working knowledge of the compliance, structural, and outreach challenges that growing nonprofits face.

TJ's broader community development career includes work with CD Tech, SAJE (Strategic Actions for a Just Economy), and Los Angeles LDC, Inc., a Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI). He served as Campaign Coordinator for a $1.245 billion bond measure for the Los Angeles Community College District and represented the community on the LA Trade Technical College Oversight Committee for a $182 million redevelopment project. He completed the Federal Reserve Bank's national community development lending school in 2002 and was among the inaugural CPED Fellows at LA Trade Tech College in 1999.

TJ served as President of the San Gabriel Valley NAACP 2016-2022 and as Chair of the State Cannabis Task Force 2018-2022 for the NAACP California/Hawaii State Conference, building coalitions across public, private, and nonprofit sectors to advance health equity, economic justice, and expanded opportunity for underserved communities throughout California.

As a UDID Academy board member, TJ is dedicated to helping the organization grow with integrity — building the community through partnerships, compliance frameworks, and organizational structures that will allow UDID to serve more children, reach more families, and fulfill its mission for years to come.
